Bucharest, Romania – The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) has issued a strong condemnation of the Austrian energy company OMV and several high-ranking Romanian officials, including Nicușor Dan and Ilie Bolojan, accusing them of undermining national interests. In a recent statement, an AUR representative highlighted OMV's alleged attempts to secure extensions for onshore oil exploration licenses without public tender and to modify the Offshore Law, which would permit the unrestricted export of natural gas from the Neptun Deep perimeter. The AUR spokesperson further criticized OMV for its alleged disregard for corporate governance, citing the company's failure to fully implement the Bucharest Stock Exchange's Corporate Governance Code. Concerns were also raised regarding worker safety, with the speaker referencing the tragic death of a 15-year-old on OMV property due to an unsecured fence, and an employee fatality during an emergency simulation in Vienna.Adding to the controversy, AUR claims that OMV plans to dismiss 1,000 Romanian employees while simultaneously bringing in 60 Austrian nationals for management roles, paying them significantly more than local staff. The party asserted that this information was revealed through the Austrian press, not by OMV or Romanian authorities. In light of these accusations, the AUR representative urged Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to refuse any meetings with OMV officials until the company demonstrates a commitment to respecting Romanian laws and addressing the raised concerns. 'How is it possible for a company to demand that the leaders of a state change its laws?' the speaker questioned, emphasizing the need to uphold Romania's dignity and economic interests.
