Georgia Teen's 17-Day ICE Detention Sparks Outrage, Highlights Immigration Debate
In Dalton, Georgia, a 19-year-old college student, Ximena Arias-Cristobal, faced 17 days of detention by ICE after a traffic stop. This incident sparked community protests and highlighted concerns about immigration enforcement. "It was very difficult and life-altering. The way you're treated in there is more like you're in a prison, rather than a detention center," Arias-Cristobal shared. Arias-Cristobal, brought to the US illegally at age four, was released on bond but still faces deportation. Her father also faces deportation and was detained at the same facility. The community rallied around Ximena, including a local Republican state representative who spoke out against her detention. Despite the ordeal, Ximena remains determined to share her story and advocate for others.
