Rose Petals Rain Down on Rome's Pantheon During Pentecost
Rome's Pantheon witnesses its annual rose petal rain during Pentecost. The city of Rome experienced one of its most emblematic traditions: the rain of rose petals in the Pantheon during the Pentecost celebration. On June 9th, 2025, at noon, after the Solemn Mass, the city's firefighters, known as the "Vigili del Fuoco," climbed to the roof of the Pantheon, located 43 meters high, to throw thousands of red petals through the central oculus of the building. This act symbolizes the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, represented by the tongues of fire mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. A witness commented, "It was breathtaking, a truly moving display of faith and tradition." The event drew large crowds, showcasing the enduring significance of this centuries-old ritual. The spectacle of rose petals falling like a gentle rain created a mesmerizing atmosphere, leaving onlookers awestruck. This year's celebration was particularly meaningful, serving as a reminder of the city's rich history and enduring faith.
