MINSK, Belarus – A local mother has sparked an online discussion after sharing her experience of choosing a 'simple' name for her daughter, a decision that drew unexpected criticism from a friend. The woman, known online as 'Poli | Мамский life,' explained in a recent video that she and her husband prioritized a name that would complement their daughter's patronymic, rather than opting for more unconventional or foreign names. "My friend told me yesterday, 'Out of a thousand names, you picked the simplest one,'" the mother recounted. She expressed her bewilderment at what she perceives as a growing 'hatred' towards traditional names, while also noting a trend of negativity directed at old Slavic names on social media platforms like TikTok. "I don't understand. Name your child what you like, but don't impose it on others," she stated, emphasizing that parents should be free to choose names that resonate with them, as they are the ones who will live with their child's name.
