Minsk Traffic Police Urge Drivers to Turn on Headlights to Protect Children
Minsk Traffic Police Remind Drivers of Headlight Requirements During Children's Safety Campaign MINSK, BELARUS – With the school year ending and summer holidays beginning, Belarusian authorities are stepping up road safety measures to protect children. From May 25th to June 5th, a nationwide campaign called "Attention, Children!" is underway, reminding drivers of the importance of increased vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations. A key aspect of the campaign emphasizes the mandatory use of dipped headlights or daytime running lights during daylight hours. This regulation, outlined in paragraph 166.9 of the Belarusian Rules of the Road, aims to enhance the visibility of vehicles and reduce the risk of accidents involving children. Failure to comply can result in a warning or a fine of up to three basic units. "The increase in child pedestrian traffic during summer necessitates extra caution from drivers," explains a spokesperson for the Minsk Traffic Police. "Turning on headlights, even in daylight, significantly improves visibility and helps prevent tragic accidents." The campaign underscores the shared responsibility of drivers and pedestrians in ensuring road safety, particularly during periods of increased activity around schools and recreational areas. The initiative serves as a timely reminder to prioritize safety and vigilance on Belarusian roads.
