Minsk Resident Loses Savings in Phishing Scam
Minsk Woman Loses 1700 Rubles in Belpochta Phishing Scam A 41-year-old resident of Minsk's Partizansky district recently fell victim to a phishing scam, losing approximately 1700 rubles. The incident occurred in May, during a city-wide cybersecurity awareness campaign. The scam was cleverly disguised as a delivery confirmation message from Belpochta, the Belarusian postal service. The woman, who had recently sent a registered letter, was not suspicious when she received the message. "The woman clicked the link in the SMS message, entered her bank card details and confirmation codes, and then discovered the theft," explained Ulyana Sokolovskaya, senior inspector of the Partizansky District Police Department's State Internal Affairs Directorate (GIOS). The police have launched a criminal investigation. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of online vigilance. Authorities urge citizens to avoid clicking links in unsolicited messages, regardless of the sender, and to enable push notifications for bank transactions to detect unauthorized activity immediately. The incident highlights the ongoing threat of online fraud and the need for increased public awareness and caution. The police are working to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent similar incidents in the future.
