Former Red Star Coach Grof Božović: 'I Would Forbid Pensioners From Voting'
BELGRADE, Serbia – Miodrag Grof Božović, the former head coach of Red Star Belgrade, has sparked widespread debate with his recent comments on voting rights for pensioners. During an appearance on the 'Ciao Nevena' podcast, Božović controversially stated, "I would forbid pensioners from voting because they hinder progress." Božović elaborated on his stance, arguing that younger generations, specifically those in their early twenties, are "much smarter, much more progressive, and they know much more." He asserted that these young people possess the "will to change something" and are the driving force for societal advancement. "When has a pensioner ever led a revolution? Never," Božović remarked, emphasizing his belief that older individuals tend to be "inert" and resistant to change. At 57 years old, Božović included himself in this assessment, stating he is "slowly starting to become inert." His comments come amidst ongoing student protests in Serbia, which he acknowledged, expressing support for the youth's demands for accountability, particularly regarding recent deaths in Novi Sad. The remarks have ignited a public discussion on ageism, democratic participation, and the role of different generations in shaping the nation's future.
