The 'clean-up crews' targeting vulnerable university students after dark
Clean-up crews have become a troubling fixture of the UK’s student nightlife scene.
A concerning trend targeting female university freshers in the United Kingdom has come to light, prompting urgent warnings from students and safety advocates. A recent viral video by content creator "rabbitgoesboom" sheds light on what he terms the "cleanup crew" phenomenon, where men allegedly rent expensive cars to patrol areas around nightclubs, specifically looking for vulnerable young women. The creator, richard, explained the disturbing practice in his video, stating, "This is essentially where men rent a very expensive car to make themselves seem like amazing, and then after the clubs have shut or right before the clubs have shut, they start patrolling the streets, looking for vulnerable girls, looking for alone girls normally." He further elaborated on the predatory nature, adding, "It is very, very predatory and you will be essentially targeted because you are drunk." Richard emphasized the critical need for vigilance among female students. "You need to stick with your friends. When you go out with someone, you have to stay with them," he advised. He expressed strong condemnation for the practice, asserting, "If you have to do cleanup crew to get some, then you shouldn't be getting some... getting rentals and praying on drunk girls, that's fucking insane." He also hinted at the severe implications, noting, "I'm not even going to get into the whole borderline sexual assault thing because that's a whole 'nother story." The video serves as a stark reminder for students to prioritize personal safety during nights out, particularly during the initial weeks of university when many are new to their surroundings. Universities and local authorities have yet to issue specific statements regarding this particular term, but general safety advice for students remains paramount.
