Bilbao, Spain - Residents of San Ignacio are sharing their candid opinions on their neighborhood, revealing a mix of appreciation for its current state and concerns over neglected areas. In recent street interviews, locals praised San Ignacio for its flat landscape, making it easily accessible, and its abundant green zones that offer recreational opportunities. "I've lived here my whole life, and it's a very pleasant, flat neighborhood," remarked one long-time resident. Another interviewee highlighted the improved safety, stating, "Before, there was a lot of trouble with drugs, but now it's much better. People feel more confident." The community also benefits from excellent public transport links and a variety of services, including schools and pharmacies. However, not all feedback was positive. A significant point of contention among residents is the state of the river promenade. "What I don't like is that they've made the river walk beautiful, but it's totally abandoned," expressed one resident, lamenting the overgrown weeds. The decline of local commerce also emerged as a concern. "The neighborhood's commerce no longer exists; it has completely disappeared," said a local man, noting that only fruit shops remain, with clothing and shoe stores largely replaced by service businesses. "There hasn't been generational relief," explained a shop owner, "and what used to be clothing and footwear is now a bit of a service sector." Despite these challenges, many residents remain committed to their community, hoping for future improvements.
