Santiago Metro's Airport Extension: Faster Travel, New Stations, and Added Cost
Santiago Metro Expansion: Five Key Takeaways from the Government's Announcement Santiago, Chile – The Chilean government recently announced a major expansion to Santiago's metro system, extending Line A to the city's airport. This project, which will take two years to study and five years to construct, is expected to significantly improve transportation for airport travelers. The new line will cost an additional 3,000 pesos, but will dramatically reduce commute times. A reporter from ADN Radio stated, "Currently, a trip from Pedro de Valdivia to the airport takes around 89 minutes; with the new line, it will only take 34 minutes." The extension starts at the Huélen station on the new Line 7 and will have only one additional station directly at the airport terminal. This project also includes extensions for other lines, including Line 6 which will reach the western sector of Maipú, and Line 10 (currently Line 4A), which will extend to Lo Espejo for the first time in history. This expansion represents a significant investment in Santiago's infrastructure and will greatly benefit residents and tourists alike.
