MINSK, Belarus – A local gardener, Raisa, has shared her concerns regarding the state of her garden this season, attributing the poor growth of her crops to persistent cold temperatures and heavy rainfall. In a recent video, Raisa highlighted the struggles faced by her plants, including potatoes, which appear small and show signs of blight. "My potatoes, at this time, would normally cover the ground completely, but now they are small, low, and pale," she stated. She also noted significant issues with other vegetables. "Here, beans were planted, and only one row barely sprouted," Raisa explained, showing a sparse row of young bean plants. Pumpkins have also failed to thrive, with some seeds not sprouting even after being planted for the third time. Despite the challenges, some crops like cucumbers and peppers, which she kept covered with spunbond, are showing better progress. Garlic also appears to be developing, though its leaves are yellowing. The onion bed is described as "more or less okay." Raisa expressed a mix of disappointment and resilience, stating, "You try so hard, you plant, you want something to grow, but nature has its own way of doing things. Well, let's hope there are no worse troubles." Her experience reflects the unpredictable nature of agricultural seasons and the impact of climate variations on local farming efforts.
