La Paz Fuel Shortage Sparks Protest: Transportation Workers Encircle Presidential Palace
La Paz, Bolivia - A significant fuel shortage in La Paz has prompted a protest by transportation workers who are encircling the Casa Grande del Pueblo, the Presidential Palace. The protest, which began on May 22nd, 2025, highlights the severe impact on the city's transportation system. According to protest leaders, only 40% of their vehicles are currently operational due to the lack of fuel.
"We are calling on the entire auto-transport sector to take action," stated Limbert Tancara, a leader of the Libre La Paz transport union. "We've been waiting three days in line for fuel, and we will not rule out radical actions against the government."
The video footage shows numerous minibuses, trucks, and other vehicles participating in the protest, creating a significant disruption in the city. The protesters' demands center on immediate government intervention to address the fuel shortage, which is severely impacting their livelihoods.
The situation underscores the vulnerability of Bolivia's transportation system to fuel supply disruptions and raises concerns about the potential for further escalation if the shortage is not resolved promptly. The government has yet to issue an official statement addressing the protesters' concerns.
