Clandestine Dog Breeding Facility Uncovered in Cochabamba: Dozens of Dogs Rescued from Deplorable Conditions
COCHABAMBA, Bolivia – Authorities in Cochabamba have intervened a clandestine dog breeding facility in the city's southern zone, revealing shocking conditions for dozens of purebred dogs. Officials from Zoonosis, accompanied by law enforcement, discovered between 35 and 40 dogs confined in overcrowded, unsanitary cages, suffering from severe malnutrition and a complete lack of ventilation. Diego Prudencio, Director of Zoonosis, expressed dismay at the findings. "We are talking about around 40 animals in an area that does not exceed 30-35 square meters," Prudencio stated. He added that many of the dogs exhibited severe malnutrition and ectoparasites, and the premises reeked of urine and feces, indicating a complete disregard for the animals' well-being. Prudencio also noted that many female dogs showed physical signs consistent with extensive, repetitive breeding. The rescued animals will be transported to a municipal facility where they will receive necessary veterinary care, nutrition, and a chance for recovery. Following their rehabilitation, the dogs will be made available for adoption, aiming to provide them with a proper family home, which they clearly lacked. Authorities confirm that the owner of the clandestine operation will face legal sanctions for violating existing animal welfare regulations. While the owner retains the right to claim ownership, they will be required to pay all corresponding fines. Zoonosis urges the public to report any suspected cases of animal abuse or illegal breeding to their hotline at 4493355, emphasizing that such activities are regulated by law and will be prosecuted.
