Heartwarming video shows local man's efforts for struggling pond: 'Not me cryin…
One TikToker showed off their motivation for clearing invasive lilies that had taken over a body of water.
A local resident, known online as reillyki, has spearheaded a community initiative to combat invasive water lilies in a local lake, aiming to restore natural habitats for ducks and other wildlife. For six months of the year, dense mats of invasive water lilies cover significant portions of the lake, including stumps where ducks typically perch, swim, and feed. This overgrowth has forced local duck populations to seek alternative resting spots, often congregating on a nearby boat. In a recent video, reillyki explained the problem, stating, "These are all invasive, everything that you see behind me is a fragrant lily, it's not supposed to be here." He highlighted the impact on ducks: "From May to October, they have a difficult time getting to it [the stumps]." The video documents the arduous process of manually cutting and removing the lily pads to create clear channels. What began as a solo effort quickly expanded, with reillyki thanking "Andre for the help with cutting, and Brian and Doug for collecting lilies." The initiative successfully cleared a significant area, creating an open path to a key stump. The video concludes with footage of ducks already utilizing the newly accessible water, demonstrating the immediate positive impact of the conservation work. "Just yesterday we cleared out this little spot for the ducks," reillyki noted, "and look who's already back appreciating it. Love it!" This community-driven effort serves as a powerful example of how local action can directly benefit wildlife and restore ecological balance.
