EU Launches Investigation into Pornhub, Xvideos, and Others for Child Safety Violations
The European Union is stepping up its fight against online child sexual abuse. On May 27, 2025, the European Commission launched investigations into four major adult content platforms: Pornhub, Xvideos, Stripchat, and XNXX. The Commission alleges that these platforms failed to properly assess and mitigate risks related to child protection, violating the Digital Services Act. "We suspect that these pornographic platforms are not properly assessing and mitigating risks stemming from their services and not effectively preventing kids from accessing adult content," said Thomas Regnier, EU Commission spokesperson. The investigations could result in fines of up to 6% of the companies' global annual turnover. This decisive action underscores the EU's commitment to safeguarding children online and could significantly impact the adult content industry's approach to child safety. The outcome of these investigations will be closely watched by regulators and online safety advocates worldwide.
