BUDAPEST, Hungary – A new satirical song by the National Resistance Movement has taken aim at Hungarian politician Péter Magyar, following a recent gaffe during his rural tour. The song, which has reportedly garnered over a million views on Facebook, specifically highlights an incident where Magyar appeared to mistake weeds for sunflowers in a field. Ripost, a Hungarian media outlet, released a video report on the song, featuring clips of Magyar alongside animated segments, including a Kermit-like puppet playing a guitar. The report states, "A song was born about Péter Magyar's rural excursion! The National Resistance Movement was once again inspired by the Tisza Messiah!" The video also includes a clip of Magyar himself stating, "I even applied to a horticultural university, because I wanted to be a horticultural engineer." This quote is juxtaposed with the satirical commentary on his apparent misidentification of plants. One segment of the song, featured in the video, directly addresses the incident: "Oh Péter, that was a blunder!" The Ripost report further notes that the song also references Magyar's reluctance to let go of the topic after the "obvious burn" and his subsequent "embarrassing explanations." The video concludes by encouraging viewers to check out the full song on the National Resistance Movement's Facebook page.
