MADRID – As summer temperatures soar, residents and visitors to Madrid now have a unique retreat: a "climatic refuge" established in the iconic Círculo de Bellas Artes. This innovative initiative, which is free to access until August 31, 2024, provides a cool and refreshing oasis amidst the city's intense heat. Located on the second floor in what was once the building's grand ballroom, the refuge has been transformed into a lush, plant-filled environment. "We wanted to create a space of freshness and well-being, filled with nature to help people escape the suffocating heat," stated a representative for the initiative. The area boasts an impressive array of greenery, including moss installations and various potted plants, contributing to a significantly cooler atmosphere. Beyond its cooling effect, the refuge offers a range of amenities. Visitors can enjoy free Wi-Fi for co-working, areas for listening to music, playing chess, and a dedicated library section. Water fountains are available for hydration, and a bar serves refreshments and coffees. Notably, the space is also pet-friendly, with a sign explicitly stating "Perros Bienvenidos" (Dogs Welcome), provided owners adhere to specific guidelines. The Círculo de Bellas Artes has also incorporated cultural elements into the refuge, featuring a zone for concerts and theatrical performances. Additionally, a "plant nursery" service is offered, allowing individuals to leave their plants in care if they are away from Madrid. This multi-faceted approach makes the climatic refuge a truly original and appreciated solution for enduring Madrid's hot summers.
