Ancient Irish Manuscript, the 'Wikipedia of the Middle Ages,' Goes on Display
Dublin's Trinity College showcases the Book of Leinster, a 12th-century manuscript considered a cornerstone of medieval Irish literature and history. After a two-year conservation project, this invaluable text, containing works like the epic tale Táin Bó Cúailnge and the Lebor Gabála Érenn (the Book of Invasions), is now available for public viewing. Caoimhe Ní Ghormaín, Curator of Manuscripts & Archives at Trinity College Dublin, describes the Book of Leinster as "a very important source of Irish historical and mythological information." The manuscript offers a unique glimpse into the past, including genealogical lists, myths, sagas, and poetry, making it a "compendium of information," according to Ní Ghormaín. The exhibition, part of the Book of Kells Experience, runs until mid-August, providing a rare opportunity to witness this remarkable piece of Irish heritage.
