LA Mayor Condemns Federal Response to Anti-ICE Protests; California Sues Trump Administration
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has condemned the federal government’s response to recent anti-ICE protests, describing the situation as "chaos" and the immigration raids as "unwarranted." The protests, which began after US President Donald Trump activated the National Guard following street demonstrations, have led to significant unrest. "We need to stop the raids. This should not be happening in our city," Bass stated during a press conference. The federal government's intervention, she argued, has only exacerbated the situation. In response to the escalating tensions, the US military is temporarily deploying approximately 700 marines to Los Angeles. California has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging the deployment of both the National Guard and the marines, arguing it is a violation of federal law and state sovereignty. The situation remains tense, highlighting the ongoing conflict between federal immigration policy and local authorities.
