Canary Islands Under Extreme UV Radiation Warning
Canary Islands Issue UV Radiation Warning Las Palmas, Gran Canaria – A significant UV radiation alert has been issued for parts of the Canary Islands. Five municipalities in Gran Canaria – Artenara, Tejeda, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and Vega de San Mateo – face extreme risk until Sunday, May 18th. The remaining islands are under a very high-risk warning. The Canary Islands Ministry of Health urges residents and tourists to take precautions. "In situations of extreme risk, it is essential to avoid direct sun exposure," a health official stated. The ministry recommends wearing protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses, and applying high SPF sunscreen frequently. The video report from Radio Televisión Canaria highlights the importance of sun safety, even on cloudy days, as UV rays can still penetrate cloud cover. The increased risk underscores the need for vigilance and responsible sun exposure habits to prevent sunburn and long-term health issues.
