1.7 Million Eggs Recalled Nationwide Due to Salmonella
**Massive Egg Recall Due to Salmonella Contamination** Millions of eggs have been recalled in the United States due to a salmonella outbreak linked to the August Egg Company. The recall, announced on June 7th, 2025, involves approximately 1.7 million eggs distributed across multiple states, including California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Indiana, and Illinois. The eggs were sold at various retailers including Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raley's, Food 4 Less, and Walmart. The affected eggs have sell-by dates between March 4th and June 4th, 2025 and can be identified by plant code numbers P-6562 or CA5330. "This bacterial infection can cause severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and potentially bloody diarrhea," explains Dr. Rubin, MD, a pediatrician and allergist who created a TikTok video bringing attention to the recall. "It could cause a bloodstream infection that could be potentially life-threatening, especially for people who are vulnerable such as those who are immunocompromised, pregnant, young, or elderly." At least 79 people have fallen ill and 21 have been hospitalized due to the salmonella contamination. The FDA urges consumers to check their eggs and discard any that match the description above. The agency is working to ensure the contaminated eggs are removed from the market and prevent further illnesses. The quick action taken and wide dissemination of information through social media platforms like TikTok has helped to mitigate the risk to the public.
