SYDNEY, Australia – A local Australian social media personality, Sarah, has revealed her clever strategies for accumulating airline loyalty points, enabling her to fly for free. In a recent viral video, Sarah explained her systematic approach to maximizing Qantas and Velocity points through everyday spending and strategic purchases. Sarah's primary method involves optimizing grocery shopping. She holds memberships with both Woolworths' Everyday Rewards and Coles' Flybuys programs, paying for their premium tiers to earn double points and receive monthly 10% discounts. "I alternate my fortnightly shops between Coles and Woolworths to get that 10% off, which effectively pays for the membership itself," she stated, highlighting that she earns between 2,000 and 3,000 points per grocery trip by shopping around for point boosters. Beyond groceries, Sarah meticulously links all her subscriptions and bills to point-earning schemes. Her electricity and gas, for instance, are through Red Energy, which earns her Qantas Points, as does her Qantas Insurance. She also strategically uses a points-earning credit card, primarily for its initial sign-up bonuses, such as the 80,000 points she received when first opening her card. One of her favorite and most lucrative methods is purchasing gift cards with bonus points. She recounted buying a new dryer by first purchasing $500 worth of gift cards from Woolworths during a 20x points promotion, which then earned her 10,000 Everyday Rewards points (equivalent to 5,000 Qantas Points). "It's just doing little things before you purchase something to think like, how can I maximize this to get points back?" she advised. Sarah also noted that she sometimes opts for cashback rewards over points if she has already accumulated a significant amount of points. She concluded by emphasizing the importance of research and being "really savvy" to maximize savings and points in various aspects of life, including fuel purchases. "There is always a way to get more bang for your buck," she asserted.
