Divaldo Pereira Franco, a highly respected spiritual leader and philanthropist in Brazil, passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 98 in Salvador, Bahia. His death marks the end of an era for Brazilian Spiritism, leaving behind a legacy of charity and social work. For eighty years, Franco dedicated his life to helping others. He founded the Mansão do Caminho in 1952, a charitable institution that provides essential services such as healthcare, education, and legal assistance to 5,000 children, youth, and the elderly. His son, Ednilson Pereira, described his father as a "simple, loving, and paternal man" who cared deeply for each individual he encountered. Beyond his philanthropic work, Franco was a prolific author, writing over 250 books translated into 17 languages. He traveled extensively, addressing the United Nations and receiving numerous awards and honors. In 2019, a film about his life, "Divaldo: O Mensageiro da Paz," was released, showcasing his impactful life story.
