Raid Exposes Horrors at Clandestine Brazilian Rehab Clinic
A clandestine rehabilitation clinic in Magé, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was raided by police following a tip from a woman who managed to escape. The raid led to the arrest of several individuals, including the clinic's owners, Vinicius Trajano Vieira and his cousin, Ruan Mateus Pinto Correia, and Vieira's wife, Karen Cristina Martins Silva. Thirteen women were rescued from the facility, where they were allegedly subjected to mistreatment, including physical abuse, forced drug overdoses, and parties involving drug use in front of the patients. According to police, the clinic's owners were former drug addicts who used their experience to start the business. 'They were there to cure this chemical dependency, to be supported, to be cared for, and they were being beaten, drugged. This is criminal, inhumane, criminal,' said police officer Débora Rodrigues. The investigation began in January, when the clinic was shut down by health inspectors due to unsanitary conditions. The rescued women are receiving medical and psychological care. This case highlights the dangers of unregulated rehabilitation facilities and underscores the importance of robust oversight.
