Brazilian School Bus Driver Sentenced to 100 Years for Child Sex Abuse
A school bus driver in Erebanho, a small town in the northern state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for the horrific sexual abuse of five underage girls. The victims included two of the driver's daughters, his stepdaughter, and two other children with disabilities. The crimes, which occurred between 2012 and last year, came to light after a concerned parent reported their child's abuse. The investigation was aided by security camera footage from the bus, which captured images of the driver committing the abuse. "The report was consistent and detailed," said Jorge Fracaro Pierrezan, the delegate who handled the case. The driver, whose name is being withheld to protect the identities of the victims, has been in custody since last year. In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay 10,000 reais in compensation to each of the victims. The case has sent shockwaves through the community of Erebanho, which has a population of just over 30,000. Delegate Pierrezan urged parents to be vigilant and pay close attention to any behavioral changes in their children that might indicate abuse. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting children and reporting any suspected abuse.
