Un sourire, t'as peur.
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes reveal for 'Alien: Earth,' the intricate practical effects behind the terrifying Xenomorph puppet, affectionately named 'Steve,' have been showcased. The team at WETA, renowned for their creature effects, demonstrated the puppet's advanced functionalities, which include a continuous drool mechanism, a fully operational jaw for biting motions, and the ability to move its lips both in unison and independently. A highlight was the iconic inner mouth, designed to extend with varying speeds to achieve both aggressive and unsettling effects. Animatronic Specialist Craig Hobern explained the meticulous process of balancing the creature's authentic aesthetic with the need for a lightweight, functional head. "The goal is to get as much performance as possible while trying to minimize the weight of the head, which is a really hard balance to strike with the functionality that we're trying to put in here," Hobern stated. This dedication to practical effects aims to deliver a visceral and terrifying experience for viewers, reinforcing the franchise's legacy of creature design.
