Ternopil, Ukraine – A recent video circulating on social media platforms has sparked discussion among residents after a snake was filmed navigating the waters of Topilche Park's stream. The video, uploaded by user @serhiy_uniyat, shows the reptile moving gracefully among rocks and submerged wood, with a text overlay identifying the location as "Тернопіль парк Топільче" (Ternopil Park Topilche). The sighting has prompted a variety of reactions from the community. Many viewers quickly identified the creature as a water snake (Natrix tessellata), a non-venomous species common in aquatic environments. "Красунчик водяний вуж не агресивний, не кусає," commented one user, translating to "Beautiful water snake, not aggressive, doesn't bite." Another added, "це не гадюка чорного кольору і на голові є оранжеві з обох сторін смужки в це вуж і не отруйний," clarifying that it's not a viper due to its markings and non-venomous nature. However, the presence of a snake in a popular urban park also raised concerns for some. "То тре було дзвони в якусь службу бо може бути і небезпечна," suggested one commenter, advocating for contacting services if it were dangerous. Others expressed apprehension, with one stating, "То у нас вже змііі є то жах не піду туди," indicating fear. Yet, many embraced the natural encounter, reminding others, "нащо ви їх рухаєте тих змій... лишіть їх і вони вас чіпати не будуть" ("why are you bothering those snakes... leave them and they won't bother you"). Local authorities have not yet issued a statement regarding the snake's presence or any potential measures to address public concerns. The incident serves as a reminder of the wildlife that coexists with urban populations, even in city parks.
