Outrage Over Exorbitant Parking Fees at Romania's Main Airport
Otopeni Airport Parking Fees Spark Outrage: Passengers Face 20 RON Hourly Charge Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni, Romania, is facing criticism over its new parking fees. A recent video by Silviu Oancea, a Member of Parliament, highlights the exorbitant 20 RON per hour charge at the newly opened P7 parking lot. This fee applies even for short stops, causing significant inconvenience to passengers and visitors. "Even if you stop for just two or three minutes to drop off a passenger, you're charged the full hourly rate," Oancea explains in his video. This lack of a grace period contrasts sharply with Cluj-Napoca Airport, where parking costs 8 RON per hour with the first 10 minutes free. The situation is further aggravated by reports of poor airport conditions. Passengers frequently complain about inadequate sanitation, including restrooms lacking running water, and general disorganization. This is despite CNAB reporting a gross profit of 662 million RON in 2024. Oancea calls for an immediate review of the Otopeni parking fees, urging Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu to address the issue. He argues that the airport, as Romania's main air gateway, should prioritize efficiency and respect for its citizens. The controversy underscores the need for transparent and fair pricing policies in public services. The high parking fees not only burden travelers but may also encourage illegal parking, creating safety hazards around the airport.
