Comic Writer Jim Zub on Conan, Conventions, and Creative Passions
At the recent Emerald City Comic Con, acclaimed comic book writer Jim Zub shared insights into his creative process and the vibrant atmosphere of comic conventions. In an interview, Zub, known for his work on Marvel, Conan, and Dungeons & Dragons, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, remarking, "Emerald City Comic Con is my first show of 2024, and the energy's been awesome. People are so excited about comics and pop culture stuff, and you can feel it." Zub highlighted the unique connection conventions foster between creators and fans. "You make these books and you sort of work in a solitary [way]... but then you are reminded of why you do it and that people get so much out of it," he stated, adding that it "recharges my batteries." He also introduced his new release, "The Savage Sword of Conan," describing it as "an absolute throwback... an oversized black and white magazine, just like the classic era." The new series, published through Titan and Heroic Signatures, features multiple stories and creative teams, with Zub contributing a prose story and writing the regular Conan monthly series. He concluded by expressing his honor "to contribute to the world's original sword and sorcery character."
