Starving Babies in Gaza: Hospitals Overwhelmed as Blockade Worsens
Gaza's Hospitals Overwhelmed Amidst Humanitarian Crisis: Malnourished Babies and Destroyed Facilities The Israeli blockade of Gaza has created a severe humanitarian crisis, with hospitals struggling to cope with the influx of malnourished children. The Rantisi hospital in northern Gaza is a prime example, once a small clinic specializing in children's care, it is now overwhelmed with patients suffering from malnutrition and other health issues. The hospital itself has also suffered damage from recent air strikes, further hindering its ability to provide adequate care. "My daughter was born at a normal weight, but since the war, she kept losing weight," says Sundus Al Shawish, the mother of three-month-old Aya, who is severely malnourished. "Her condition is very difficult. I don't want to lose her." Dr. Jalal Al Barawi, working at the Rantisi hospital, describes the situation: "Today, we receive between 300 to 500 cases daily, with approximately 10% requiring admission. This volume far exceeds the capacity of the Rantisi Hospital." The blockade has also caused a severe shortage of baby formula, leaving new mothers struggling to breastfeed due to a lack of food themselves. The video footage shows the stark reality: severely malnourished babies, overcrowded hospital wards, and the devastation caused by air strikes. The situation in Gaza's hospitals underscores the urgent need for humanitarian aid and a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
