Teen's Brave Assembly on Father's Suicide Sparks Crucial Conversation
A 16-year-old girl, Evie Roodhouse, from Basingstoke, UK, recently gave a moving assembly at her school, Brighton Hill School, about her father's suicide. Evie's presentation was prompted by her observation of peers making light of suicide. 'I'm telling you this because I've heard jokes about suicide and depression at school, and this has really hurt me,' Evie shared. Her mother, Caroline Roodhouse, expressed her pride in Evie's courage, stating, 'The overriding feeling is pride. I think she's incredible; I'm unbelievably proud.' The headteacher, Chris Edwards, praised Evie's strength, emphasizing the pressures faced by young people today. Evie's story highlights the importance of open conversations about mental health and the need for support systems within schools and communities.
