Solar Powering UK Schools: A Step Towards Clean Energy
The UK government is investing in renewable energy sources for schools, with the goal of achieving clean energy by 2030. This initiative is already making a difference in Milton Keynes, where one school has installed solar panels, resulting in significant cost savings. "On some days, the solar panels can power the entire school," says James Browning, Chief Operating Officer at Great British Energy. The savings will fund extra resources for students, such as school trips. However, only a small percentage of schools are currently part of the scheme, raising questions about the feasibility of reaching the 2030 target. Despite this, the Minister for Energy, Michael Shanks, remains optimistic, stating that "this is about a sort of balance." The project showcases a positive step towards sustainable energy, with the hope of expanding the initiative to many more schools in the future.
