GREEN GLADES, FL – Two gray foxes, orphaned and raised at the South Florida Wildlife Center for four months, have been successfully released back into their natural habitat on the Bergeron Everglades Foundation property in Green Glades. The release marks a significant milestone in their rehabilitation journey, where they acquired essential survival skills. Staff from the South Florida Wildlife Center transported the young foxes in carriers to the expansive Everglades land. Upon arrival, the foxes were eager to re-enter the wild. As their carriers were opened, both foxes quickly emerged and disappeared into the tall grass and surrounding trees, signifying their return to a crucial role in the ecosystem. Gray foxes are vital for controlling rodent populations and serve as prey for larger predators like coyotes and bobcats. A representative from the South Florida Wildlife Center expressed gratitude to the Bergeron Everglades Foundation for providing the ideal release site, stating, "We hope these foxes thrive in their natural home back where they belong." The center encourages continued support for wildlife conservation efforts.
