Bogotá, Colombia – H&M has launched a new textile recycling initiative in its Colombian stores, offering customers a financial incentive to contribute to sustainable fashion practices. The program allows individuals to bring in any used clothing, regardless of brand or condition, for recycling or reuse. For every five garments donated, participants receive a 20,000 Colombian pesos discount voucher applicable to their next purchase. The initiative aims to reduce textile waste and promote a circular economy within the fashion industry. A local content creator, Val Gómez, recently shared her experience with the program, demonstrating the process of dropping off clothes and receiving the vouchers. She expressed enthusiasm for the environmental benefits, stating, "I got rid of a little weight, there's always the option to give away clothes we no longer use to people who need them, but when you have clothes that definitely can't be used anymore, this option with H&M is incredible." However, the value and usability of the vouchers have sparked discussion among consumers. Several comments on social media platforms highlight that the 20,000 pesos discount often requires a minimum purchase of 130,000 pesos, leading some to question the true benefit. One user commented, "With 20,000 [pesos] I barely buy anything at H&M, I'd earn more selling it." Another noted, "It's a 20,000 peso bonus that can be redeemed for purchases over 130,000 pesos." Despite these concerns, the program continues to draw attention for its environmental premise.
