Former Minister Critiques Kenya's Tribal-Based Political Parties
NAIROBI, KENYA – June 5, 2025 – In a recent interview on Spice FM’s “The Situation Room,” Kipruto Arap Kirwa, a former Kenyan Agriculture Minister, provided a critical analysis of the country’s political landscape. Kirwa argued that Kenyan political parties lack organic growth, instead forming around individuals or tribal coalitions. He stated, “By large, parties, especially here in Kenya, are either crafted around an individual or a coalition of tribes.” He supported his claim by referencing historical examples, such as the transitions between NARC, PNU, TNA, URP, Jubilee, and Kenya Kwanza. Kirwa also noted similar patterns within the opposition. He concluded by emphasizing the need for more genuine, organically developed political parties in Kenya. This insightful analysis offers valuable context to current political discussions in the country.
