A Romanian family, after residing abroad for 23 years, made the decision to return to their homeland. However, their attempt to readapt to life in Romania proved challenging, leading them to return to England after just 11 months.
The man, who shared his family's experience, cited several reasons for their departure. While acknowledging the pleasant weather and the formation of new friendships and relationships, he highlighted significant difficulties. "The entire situation in Romania, taxes over taxes, taxes over taxes, expensive prices everywhere," he stated, explaining the financial burden. He also expressed frustration with the country's bureaucracy and the quality of public services. "I, for one, do not accept to come back after so many years abroad and stand in line at a counter to pay a bill or resolve a document," he remarked, emphasizing the stark contrast with the online efficiency they were accustomed to. He also noted issues with finding reliable services, such as mechanics or electricians, stating, "They make me dismantle parts of the car myself to take them for repair."
Despite these challenges, the man expressed a profound appreciation for Romania's natural beauty, stating, "Romania is very beautiful. It's a pity that it cannot yet welcome us, those from the diaspora." His account reflects a common sentiment among some members of the Romanian diaspora who, despite their love for their home country, find it difficult to reintegrate due to systemic issues.
