Recycling Scam Nets Romanian Man 700,000 Lei
Ilfov Man Makes Fortune Recycling Recycled Bottles: Police Investigate 700,000 Lei Fraud An Ilfov resident defrauded a recycling system by repeatedly recycling already processed PET bottles, netting nearly 700,000 Romanian Lei. The man, a 46-year-old employee of a local store in Chitila, understood the system's vulnerabilities. "He knew exactly how the machines worked," stated Larisa Ratiu, a reporter for Kanal D, in a recent news segment. "He was able to trick the system into paying him multiple times for the same bottles." Police are investigating, seizing a large quantity of recycled PET bottles. The investigation revealed the man recycled an estimated 11,700 bottles daily over four months. The total amount of money obtained through this scheme is approximately 700,000 Lei. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of robust security measures in recycling programs.
