Geothermal Spa Boom: North-West Romania Attracts Millions in EU Funding
North-West Romania is experiencing a boom in geothermal energy projects. Local councils are attracting significant European funding to build new spa resorts. One such project in Beiuș will cover 49,000 square meters, including eight outdoor pools and a spa area. "The economic benefits are 100%, for local government and businesses," says Dragoș Balogh, Beiuș's deputy mayor. A similar project in Sânmartin, spanning 50,000 square meters, is also underway. The projects represent a significant investment in the region's tourism sector, leveraging its abundant geothermal resources. According to Ioana Creț, representing a geothermal cluster, "In the near future, this area will be a major geothermal hub. We just need the courage to invest."
