Ukrainian Village's Ancient Recipe: Leskivskyi Tsybulianyky
Leskivskyi Tsybulianyky: A Taste of Cherkasy's Culinary Heritage Tucked away in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine, the village of Lesky holds a culinary treasure: Leskivskyi Tsybulianyky. This traditional stuffed onion dish, passed down through generations, has recently gained attention thanks to a short video by Suspilne Cherkasy. The video features Svitlana Savisko, a local schoolteacher, who demonstrates the preparation of this unique recipe. "We take parboiled onion bulbs and fill them with a mixture of boiled rice, meat farce, and a sauté of onions and carrots," Savisko explains. The dish is then baked with a tomato-based sauce. The video also includes an interview with Olena Susych, director of the Lesky cultural center. She highlights the importance of preserving this culinary tradition: "We want to preserve our history, to pass it on from generation to generation, and what better way than with a good dish that we can share with tourists and guests." Leskivskyi Tsybulianyky is more than just a recipe; it's a symbol of Lesky's rich cultural heritage, a testament to the enduring power of tradition and community.
