Guatemalan Fathers Reflect on Paternity, Values, and the Joys of Raising Children
Guatemalan Fathers Share Joys and Responsibilities of Paternity Guatemala City, Guatemala – In anticipation of Father's Day, Telediario Guatemala spoke with several fathers across the country, who shared their heartfelt experiences and the values they strive to instill in their children. The interviews highlighted the profound impact of fatherhood and the dedication involved in raising a family. Carlos, a father of three, expressed immense satisfaction in his role. "It's an unforgettable experience as a man to have three such beautiful children," he stated. He also shared the unique joy of being a grandfather, noting, "One is even more conscious with a grandchild than with one's own children at the time. Sometimes one spends more time with grandchildren than with their own children." He emphasized the importance of passing on values to the next generation. Another father, Christian Gil, described the moment of seeing his child for the first time as something "one never forgets." He added, "To see the face of my little girl, in this case, has been the most beautiful thing that has happened to me in life." He stressed the significance of being present for every step of their children's lives. A father of six, who runs a business, spoke about the great responsibility of raising his large family. "It is a great responsibility to have six children, but from here, with my business, I have brought all six forward," he said proudly. He highlighted providing education and ensuring his children become "responsible, educated people" who show respect to others. "That is my great desire," he added. Another interviewee reflected on fatherhood as a "vocation, a gift from God," noting that not everyone desires to be a father. He emphasized the desire to transmit the best to his children and ensure their well-being. He also acknowledged the lessons learned from his own father, particularly the value of hard work, recalling how his father would take them to the fields to teach them to labor. The report concluded by acknowledging that while fathers express their love in different ways—some through words and hugs, others through actions and sacrifices—all strive to give their best for their children's happiness. The segment underscored the fundamental role fathers play in their children's growth, decisions, and the love within the family.
