Timișoara Transforms North Station Area with Completed Urban Regeneration Works
Timișoara, Romania – The Timișoara City Hall has announced the completion of significant urban regeneration works at the square adjacent to the North Station, marking a step forward in enhancing the city's public spaces. Concurrently, repairs are continuing on General Dragalina Boulevard as part of a broader municipal project. According to officials, the teams have successfully completed the installation of new paving and the refurbishment of sidewalks in the square. Future plans include planting trees in the newly created alveoli this autumn, aiming to provide a green and shaded environment for visitors arriving by train in the coming years. Vice-mayor Ruben Lațcău commented on the initiative, stating, "The North Station is one of the entry points into Timișoara, and for many years it did not look as we would have wished. After previous years saw repairs at the intersection with Republicii Boulevard, this year we are focusing on Dragalina Boulevard. The square opposite the station will become, after the autumn plantings, a space where anyone can quietly wait for the trolleybus, not a place to escape the scorching heat during summer." The redevelopment is part of a municipal project focused on regenerating and reorganizing the area in front of the North Station, as well as fostering a more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly urban framework. Interventions also encompass expanding green spaces along General Dragalina Boulevard and completing the bicycle path network between the bridge and the station. Currently, the City Hall has finished the works on the square, and the sidewalks on the right side of the boulevard, heading towards the station, have been fully redone. Additionally, the public transport station shelter has been replaced. Works are now proceeding on the left side of the boulevard for the sidewalk, with road surface repairs scheduled to commence in July. The project also includes the creation of new parking spaces following the demolition of garages behind the apartment blocks on Dragalina Boulevard.
