AI Hallucinations in Legal Practice: Experts Warn of Risks
Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing various fields, and the legal sector is no exception. Recently, there have been growing concerns about AI hallucinations in legal practice. A recent report by Teleexpress TVP highlights several cases where AI generated false legal documents, causing significant problems. "The use of AI in law is becoming increasingly common, but it's crucial to remember that AI is a tool, not a replacement for human judgment," says Mikołaj Stępkowski, a legal counsel. One example cited was a document generated by AI that contained entirely fabricated court decisions, dates, and signatures. Another expert, Agata Szeliga, adds, "The risk of violating professional confidentiality is also a significant concern." The report emphasizes the need for careful verification of any AI-generated legal information to prevent miscarriages of justice and maintain the integrity of the legal system. This underscores the need for responsible AI implementation and the ongoing development of safeguards to mitigate potential risks.
