Heavy Rains Cripple Spain's Honey Harvest
Heavy Rains in Spain Impact Honey Production Farmers and beekeepers across Spain are facing challenges due to unusually heavy rainfall this spring. The prolonged wet weather has significantly impacted honey production, according to local beekeepers. In the Alberche Valley, beekeeper Iván del Río explains the situation: "Our bees aren't ruminants, so when it rains so much, they can't go out to forage and haven't produced any honey. They've actually consumed their honey stores." A reporter from Telemadrid accompanied del Río to his apiary, where they opened a beehive. The frames normally full of honey were nearly empty. Del Río added, "It's like they're in jail; the food is outside, but they can't get to it." The video highlights the challenges faced by beekeepers and the impact of extreme weather on agriculture in Spain. Despite the setbacks, beekeepers remain hopeful for better conditions in the coming months.
