Chilean Earthquake Simulator Educates Public During National Heritage Day
Chilean News Outlet Showcases Earthquake Simulator at National Heritage Day Event Santiago, Chile – As part of the 2025 Día de los Patrimonios, the National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (SENAPRED) set up a mobile earthquake simulator in Santiago. This initiative aims to educate the public, particularly younger generations who may not have experienced a major earthquake, about seismic safety and preparedness. A T13 Finde segment interviewed a SENAPRED director who stated, "This is a seismic simulator, a truck that travels the country. It simulates the experience of being in a home during an earthquake, using recordings of past quakes." The simulator allows participants to feel the intensity of past earthquakes, including the 2010 event. The director emphasized the importance of having a family emergency plan. "The idea is not just to experience the shaking, but to learn what to do during a quake," she added. Beyond the simulator, SENAPRED also offered an exhibition on seismic heritage, showcasing artwork inspired by past earthquakes. This event underscores Chile's commitment to earthquake preparedness and risk reduction.
