Chilean Court Dismisses Case Against Actor Cristián Campos Due to Statute of Limitations
Santiago, Chile – In a case that has garnered significant attention in Chile, a court has dismissed sexual abuse charges against renowned actor Cristián Campos due to the statute of limitations. The 34th Criminal Court of Santiago ruled that while there was sufficient evidence to support three claims of sexual abuse against Campos' stepdaughter, Raffaella Di Girólamo, between 1989 and 1995, the crimes were too old to prosecute. Di Girólamo, in an interview, expressed her disappointment with the ruling, stating, "While the court acknowledged the abuse, the fact that he won't face consequences is deeply upsetting." Her lawyer, Juan Pablo Hermosilla, added, "This is a failure of the system that allows perpetrators to escape justice due to technicalities." Despite the dismissal, the court's findings have sparked renewed debate about the statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases in Chile. The case underscores the need for continued efforts to support survivors and reform legal processes to ensure accountability for perpetrators.
