Paris, France – Millions of French citizens using Doctolib, the popular online medical appointment booking platform, are being targeted by a sophisticated phishing scam, as reported by TF1 INFO. Cybercriminals are exploiting the platform's widespread use to trick individuals into revealing sensitive banking information. The scam involves fraudulent SMS messages and emails, often appearing to be from Doctolib or the national health insurance (CPAM), promising complementary reimbursements, typically around 23 euros. These messages direct users to fake websites designed to harvest personal data, including bank card numbers. Cédric Voisin, Director of IT Security at Doctolib, emphasized that the platform never requests bank card details or initiates direct transfers for reimbursements. “Our work is to facilitate access to healthcare, not to handle reimbursements,” Voisin stated. He urged users to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of any message claiming to be from Doctolib. An ethical hacker, Clément Domingo (alias "Saxx"), explained that these phishing attempts are particularly prevalent during summer months. He noted that scammers leverage a sense of urgency and promotional language to make their schemes appear more credible, preying on users’ immediate concerns or desires for quick refunds. Doctolib has already sent out warning messages to its users to raise awareness about these fraudulent activities. Authorities and Doctolib advise all users to exercise extreme caution, to never click on suspicious links, and to verify the sender's authenticity directly through official channels if they receive any dubious messages.
