Nigeria Floods: 110 Dead as Mokwa City Submerged
Nigeria's Mokwa city is submerged by catastrophic floods, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming at least 110 lives. Torrential rains have caused widespread devastation, with over 50 homes completely destroyed. "This is one of the worst flooding events we've seen in decades," stated Abullahi Baba-Arah, head of the state's Emergency Management Agency, in an interview with the BBC. The scale of the disaster is immense, surpassing anything witnessed in the region for at least sixty years. The floods have brought back grim memories of 2022, when similar events displaced 1.3 million people and caused over 600 deaths. As the rainy season continues, the threat of further flooding looms large over northern Nigeria. Relief efforts are underway to assist the affected communities.
