Living with Ruby: Toronto Owner Shares Candid Insights into Her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's Quirks and Anxieties
Toronto, Canada Meghan Wainwright, a local pet owner, recently shared an insightful update on her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Ruby, shedding light on the unique challenges and joys of living with a dog with specific anxieties. Ruby, a tri-color Cavalier nearing her second birthday, has presented her owner with a range of behaviors, including separation anxiety and unexpected triggers that cause her to "scream" rather than simply whine or bark. "She decided out of nowhere that she had really bad separation anxiety and anxiety about a lot of random things," Wainwright explained in a recent social media post. "Things that we exposed her to a lot of times when she was little, she just again decided that she didn't like them." This has made transitions, such as getting in or out of the car, particularly challenging for Ruby. However, Wainwright noted a significant improvement in Ruby's demeanor over the past year. "Fortunately, she has mellowed out a lot over the last year, I would say." Despite this progress, Ruby still exhibits a peculiar habit: "We also joke that she's house-broken but not condo-broken because she always seems to have a little dribble left in the tank when one of us comes home and she's just really excited to see one of us." This contrasts with her behavior in a house setting, where frequent outdoor access mitigates the issue. Wainwright describes Ruby as generally shy and skittish, yet paradoxically, she adores strangers and attention. "She doesn't really love other dogs, but she loves strangers, she loves attention." Ultimately, Ruby's quirky personality, intelligence, and hilarious antics continue to bring joy to her owners. "She is so quirky, so hilarious, so smart. She's a little diva and she just cracks us up all the time. And she's a sweet girl. We love her so much."
