Disruptor Making Nazi Salutes Apprehended After University of Washington Lecture Interruption
SEATTLE, WA – A lecture at the University of Washington's Kane Hall was abruptly interrupted on Wednesday afternoon when a male individual allegedly made Nazi salutes and shouted insults at students and Associate Teaching Professor Nicole McNichols. The incident, which occurred during a PSYCH 210 class, led to a swift response from both the professor and students, who collectively chased the disruptor out of the lecture hall and across the campus grounds. The individual was subsequently apprehended by the University of Washington Police Department (UWPD). Criminal charges are pending and will be referred to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. University spokesperson Victor Balta confirmed that the disruptor was not a UW student and will be banned from campus. In a statement, Balta declared, “The incident on Wednesday in which an individual interrupted a lecture in Kane Hall while apparently making Nazi salutes and hurling insults at the instructor and students is completely unacceptable.” Following the incident, Professor McNichols sent a Canvas message to her class, expressing gratitude for their actions. “I want to take a moment to acknowledge how extraordinary you all were today. In an incredibly upsetting and disruptive situation, you showed care for one another, acted quickly, and supported me and your classmates,” McNichols stated.
