Severe Storms Slam Kansas City: Flash Floods and Hail Damage
Kansas City Area Hit by Severe Thunderstorms, Flash Flooding, and Hail Overnight thunderstorms brought heavy rain, flash flooding, and hail to the Kansas City metropolitan area. The National Weather Service reported that the storms dumped between 1 and 4 inches of rain across the metro, leading to some flash flooding in low-lying areas. Videos from residents show Turkey Creek in Johnson County surging with floodwaters, and hail covering the ground in Overland Park. In Prairie Village, several trees were uprooted by the strong winds. "I've never seen anything like it," said one Overland Park resident, whose garden was covered in hail. The storms also caused damage in Prairie Village, with several trees falling onto homes and yards. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for parts of the metro area. As of Tuesday morning, isolated showers are still lingering in the area, but the worst of the storm has passed. Cooler weather is expected to follow.
